Changing planes in Vietnam to Laos – Do I need a Vietnam visa?

Do I need a Vietnam visa if I am only changing planes in Vietnam? Final destination is Laos.

Dear Craig,

Be kindly informed that if you only transit in Vietnam for few hours before taking another flight to other country, there are two options for you:

– If you fly with same airline (from your country to Vietnam and from Vietnam to Laos) and only stay in the waiting room of the Vietnam airport without going out, you do not need a Vietnam visa.

– If you transit in Vietnam but you will go out of the airport for relaxing before taking the new flight or fly with different airlines (from your country to Vietnam and from Vietnam to Laos), you do need a Vietnam visa.

We hope this information is clear to you.

Kind regards,

Trang Tien Bridge at night - Vietnamvisa.sg

Hue City turns livelier

Endowed with unique beauty, Hue City in the central of Vietnam is a well-known destination for both local and foreign tourists. However, Hue recently seems to transform itself into a different one; it is more bustling and more colorful at night.

Trang Tien Bridge at night - Vietnamvisa.sg

In addition to visit some attractive destinations such as Hue Royal Citadel, Thien Mu Pagoda and the royal tombs of Nguyen Dynasty’s kings, visitors to this imperial city can also stroll along the streets close to the Huong River to admire Hue’s beauty in the evening. The liveliest place that should be named is the Truong Tien Bridge area where there is a busy night market full of people checking in and out and also watching the bridge’s lights changing their colors.

To the locals, the Truong Tien Bridge on the Huong River seems to be a very important symbol. It has witnessed all the ups and downs of history and become a romantic symbol of the ancient capital. During the day, the bridge manifests varied beauties with simplicity early in the morning, hustle and bustle in the daytime, solitude at twilight and hectic at night when its colorful lights are reflected on the water. The road beneath the bridge is a busy night market where a variety of goods are sold such as foods and souvenirs.

A visit to Hue will be incomplete without taking a dragon boat ride in the Huong River at night and listening to Hue’s royal court music. A trip en route from the Truong Tien Bridge to the Phu Xuan Bridge by boat will cost only VND10,000-15,000 a person while the trip plus Hue’s music performance will cost VND50,000 a person. In the evening tourists will listen to some ladies in purple traditional ao dai singing beautifully. This is a completely different Hue.

Visitors can take a sightseeing tour by motorbike along the roads leading to the north, south, east and west gates. These roads under the shade of seasoned trees are full of street vendors and restaurants selling Hue’s signature dishes such as banh beo, banh nam, banh loc, Hue-style sweetened soup and Hue-style noodle soup. Hue represents a combination between old and new elements.

Vietnam expects to welcome 100,000 Indian tourist arrivals

Based on the huge potential for development of bilateral ties between Vietnam and India in tourism, and also the direct flight routes connecting two cities of India and Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam, it is expected that Vietnam will welcome the 100,000th Indian visitor to Vietnam in near future.

According to the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Preeti Saran, most of Indian travelers favor cultural and historical sites, especially those related to Buddhism and Hinduism. Therefore, the world cultural heritage site of My Son in central Quang Nam province and ancient pagodas are attractive destinations to Indian holiday-makers.

She also suggested the Vietnamese tourism sector strengthens the promotion of its cuisine among Indian tourists as Vietnam has a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits that meet the taste of Indians, particularly vegetarians.

At present 10,000 Indian tourists come to Vietnam every year due to the lack of information on Vietnamese tourism and a direct air route between the two countries. However, on November 5, India’s Jet Airways launched direct routes between New Delhi and Mumbai and Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air also have plans to run direct flights to India’s localities. The opening of direct flights is expected to help foster the two countries’ tourism ties.

Indian citizens also may find it much easier to obtain a visa to Vietnam since they now have two ways to go about this matter:

  • Apply for a visa at Vietnam Embassy; OR
  • Apply for a visa on arrival (for its guide, please click here)
